What We Do
Here at Bolton Canoe Club we run a fairly informal family friendly beginners club. We paddle both flat and white water in Kayaks and Canoes.
We are affiliated to British canoeing as a ‘Adult Club with Youth Section’.
We are a friendly club with members of various levels of experience and ability. Club sessions focus on introducing beginners to kayaking and canoeing through weekly training sessions by our qualified coaches, outdoors in summer and in a swimming pool in winter. We also run trips throughout the year on lakes, canals and rivers; some of these trips may be on more advanced water to allow you to progress your skills.
We also organise occasional weekend camps away. We meet weekly on Monday evenings: in summer at High Rid reservoir in Horwich and during winter in the swimming pool at Westhoughton Leisure Centre. All the information you need is below, but please get in touch to let us know you’re coming.
Prospective members are welcome to attend three sessions without joining the club. For insurance purposes; after attending three club sessions as a non-member, you will be asked to join and to complete a membership form before participating in further events.
Club officials and British Canoeing qualified coaches have undertaken appropriate safeguarding training and have been subject to DBS checks in line with British Canoeing guidance. At High Rid and at the pool, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult who must remain on site throughout the event.
